JDMCox Software

Twenty-two free Windows programs that I've written as a hobby over the past 11 years:

USAPhotoMaps 2.77 downloads USGS aerial photo and topo map data from Microsoft's free TerraServer Web site, saves it on your hard drive, and creates maps with GPS accuracy. You can:

  • Scroll and zoom
  • See latitude/longitude
  • See USGS Landmarks
  • See TIGER/Line streets
  • See elevation and contour lines
  • Add waypoints, routes, and text
  • Go to any address, populated place, USGS landmark, or lat/lon in the U.S.A.
  • Transfer waypoints, tracks, and routes to and from most GPS receivers
  • Receive/Transmit/Show Ham Radio APRS locations, messages, etc.
  • See your GPS location
  • And much more...

SimplePiano 1.15 is an aid for anyone learning to play piano and read music.
It uses Maestro fonts (that are installed with the program) to show the notes played on the treble and bass clef staffs.
The notes played are also highlighted on a 60-key on-screen piano keyboard.
You can play it using the keyboard, the mouse, or a MIDI keyboard (I recommend the M-Audio Keystation 61es).
The Circle of Fifths can be displayed, and when a key in it is selected, that key's signature is shown on the staffs.
Any of the eight most-used chords can be selected and played by playing the chord's root key. Chord inversions can also be selected.
A random note reading exercise is included.
The midi instrument (128 choices) and output sound (Windows or soundcard sound) are selectable.

SimpleComposer 1.12 can be used to compose and play simple MIDI piano music. A MIDI keyboard is needed to enter notes, although one isn't needed to listen to any MIDI file and see its music on the treble and bass staffs.

PianoRollComposer 2.08 is a MIDI sequencer for composing and playing MIDI music. It uses the standard treble and bass clef staffs, but notes are displayed in the piano roll format, so it shows music with absolute accuracy. Notes are entered directly on the staffs, and you can edit each note to give it the exact characteristics you want. You can input and edit any of 128 MIDI instruments and 58 percussion instruments. If you have a MIDI keyboard, you can play and record any instrument with it. A composition can contain music from 15 instruments and 58 percussion instruments. The music created with it can be played by any MIDI player, and can be shown in standard music notation by programs like Notation Player. And PianoRollComposer can play and display any MIDI music.

SimplePercussion 1.065 has all 47 standard MIDI percussion instruments, which can play together in a loop of up to 70 beats (depending on your screen resolution).
Just mark the boxes corresponding to the instrument(s) and the beat, and then play it. A moving vertical line shows the beat being played.
    Save to/open a file, change beats/second, beats/loop, and beats/heavy vertical accent lines.
Also works nicely as a simple metronome.
